Bioneers: Committed to Restoration
Kenny Ausubel founded BIONEERS in
1990 to build needed Bioneers infrastructure to support restoration efforts
- In their words,"conservation of biological and cultural diversity,
traditional farming practices, and environmental restoration."
Bioneers are a mix of cultural creatives, and activists for restoration
in ecology and social justice. The Great Lakes Bioneers Conference
is a satellite program coming out of the main Bioneers conference in
California.
Restoration as a New Model
Through out the year Bioneers continue the
work in the model of nature in an array of professions dedicated to restoration.
Bioneers recognize
that a period of restoration is needed in this century to ease the suffering
of the human condition. As the headwaters explains, "Bioneers are
scientists and artists, gardeners and economists, activists and public
servants, architects and ecologists, farmers and journalists, priests
and shamans, policymakers and citizens. They are everyday people committed
to preserving and supporting the future of life on Earth." Bioneers,
they say,
"herald a dawning Age of Restoration founded in natural principles
of kinship, interdependence, cooperation, reciprocity, and community."
