Great Lakes Bioneers Conference: Traverse City, Michigan
is a satellite conference of the main Bioneers Conference
in San Rafael California that is held annually on the third weekend of
October. "Bioneers"
is a term combining the pioneer spirit with the idea of ecological solutions
to sustainable living. The conference highlights the individuals and
organizations that are forging the way to sustainable living solutions
based on environmental, and socially just, alternatives.
Regional Celebration: Great
Lakes Bioneers Conference
The Great Lakes Bioneers
Conference is in its fourth year and continues
to grow and improve. In addition to providing large
screen video feed from the main plenary speakers at
the main Bioneers Conference, the Great Lakes Bioneers
Conference also conducts workshops relevant to the
Great Lakes Region. Very popular among conference goers
is the locally produced organic lunch, after hours
concerts and mixers, and vendor space for businesses
and organizations working in the field of sustainability,
environmental protection and social justice.
Attendees to the Great Lakes Bioneers
Conference travel from the across the region for the
three day weekend conference and go away with information,
connections and inspiration to continue working towards
more sustainable communities and society. The 2004 Great
Lakes Bioneers Conference featured workshops on local
currencies, right livelihood, alternative energies, green
building, water rights and Fair Trade consumption. The
latter featured speakers from the community of Acteal,
Chiapas, Mexico who told their story of resistance.
